What is Thyme Oil?

Thyme is a perennial herb that is often used in culinary practices. The herb is found throughout the warmer regions of Europe, most notably the Mediterranean, where it has a history as rich and luscious as its scent. The Greeks and other groups considered thyme an emblem of bravery and it was used to perfume temples in early spiritual practices that also associated the herb with elegance.

Steam distilled from the flowering plant, its aroma is pleasantly zesty and herbal.

Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme oil can help ease enliven and energize the mind and senses while promoting positive moods, making it a useful meditative aid. Steam distillation of thyme produces a red, brown, or orange-colored oil with a strong herbaceous and zesty aroma. However, re-distilling this red thyme oil produces a clear to pale-yellow oil with a milder scent, known as white thyme oil. Known for its slightly minty and zesty aroma, thyme oil can instill feelings of confidence and historically has been used as a symbol of chivalry, bravery, and courage.

Blending essential oils opens up a world of aromatherapy possibilities! Other oils that complement thyme oil’s herbaceous fragrance include: basil, bergamot, eucalyptus, frankincense, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, lemon balm, marjoram, neroli, pine, rosemary, sweet fennel, and tea tree oils.

Piping Rock's pure Red Thyme Oil is available in 1/2 oz. and 2 oz. bottles; our pure White Thyme Oil is available in 1/2 oz. bottles.
