What is Calendula?
Calendula, a member of the Calendula officinalis family, falls under the classification of the more familiar name: marigolds. This plant is found throughout Western Europe, the Mediterranean and parts of Southern Asia. There are 15-20 species of the flower in the world. The small, yellow-flowered plant is not only pretty to look at but it also has a bunch of benefits for the body.
The history of Calendula is far-reaching and has had many applications throughout time. In the case of the Ancient Egyptians, they would use this bold flower as a way to rejuvenate their skin. On the other hand, Greeks and Romans found a more culinary appeal and would use the flower as a décor piece on their food. Lastly, in folklore, it was said that if you put calendula under your pillow it would protect you from robbers and thieves! Today it is cherished in both aromatherapy and as an herbal supplement.
There are many calendula products on the market. Here at Piping Rock, we offer the benefits of this flower in the form of easy-to-swallow capsules. We also sell a calendula essential oil that provides the floral goodness of the flower for useful application in aromatherapy.
