What is Pine?

Found through much of the Northern Hemisphere, the evergreen Scots Pine is an extremely versatile tree that can grow over 100 feet in height. Native to Europe and Asia and ranging north well into the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia, the tree was one of the first trees introduced to North America circa 1600. One of its most common uses in North America has been during the winter holidays as a Christmas trees!

Its wood is ranges in color between pale brown to a red-brown, and has been used in general construction work and was previously used as a source for rosin and turpentine. The pine tree also yields edible pine nuts, popular in some culinary practices.

Pine Essential Oil

The needles of the evergreen pine tree are steam distilled to create the woody, crisp, and cool aroma associated with Pine Needle Oil. Pine oil’s bracing and clean scent is known for being revitalizing and invigorating, making it a popular choice for meditation. Additionally, pine oil is enlivening for the senses and also soothing for occasional release of stress.

Blending essential oils opens up a world of aromatherapy possibilities! Other oils that complement Pine oil’s crisp fragrance include: geranium, lemon, lime, orange, neroli, cedar, coriander, lavender, ylang-ylang, and chamomile oils.

Pine Oil Directions for Use

Add 3-5 drops of Pine Oil to a diffuser or vaporizer, to a bowl of steaming water or a hot bath to fill a room with its woody, cool, and crisp aroma. To use topically, add ~5 drops of Pine Oil to ~10 mL of any Piping Rock carrier oil.

Pine Oil is for external use only and should be diluted in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed or avocado oil before being used topically. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Always consult your trusted physician before adding any essential oil to your regimen, especially if you are pregnant, nursing or taking any medications. Discontinue use and alert your doctor should an adverse reaction occur. Keep out of reach of children and away from eyes and mouth. Essential oils are flammable.
