What is Mandarin?

A juicy treat, a token of good fortune, an aromatic delight… mandarins are truly a beloved fruit, and it’s no wonder why! Mandarins grow on drought-tolerant evergreen trees that can reach a height of 14 feet. The round, pebble-skinned fruits are botanically very similar to tangerines. Native to Southeastern Asia, mandarins are ingrained in Chinese culture and have been for centuries.

Mandarins are considered a token of good luck in Chinese culture and are presented as gifts during Chinese New Year as a blessing for the year to come. These bright fruits are also considered symbols of the sun thanks to their shape and color and are therefore connected with the yang principle, the positive force of nature. As if that wasn’t enough, the dried peel is also used to regulate the flow of life energy, known as chi.

By following trade routes to India, mandarins quickly became a part of Ayurvedic wellness traditions, and have only spread in popularity throughout the world since!
