What is Lemongrass?

Long and slender tropical grass, emerald against a clear blue sky, emitting the refreshing aroma of citrus… it’s no secret how lemongrass earned its moniker. Native to Southeast Asia, lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) has been a unique and loved part of both traditional cuisines and wellness practices for generations. It frequents flavorful Thai dishes, aromatic Indian curries, and has only continued on its influential journey across the palates of the world, quickly spreading throughout markets and restaurants of South and Central Americas and the Caribbean.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

Steam distilled from the aerial parts of the plant, lemongrass oil was first cultivated and distilled in India in the 1880s. It was from here that the popularity of the lemony-green aroma took off—and not just because people enjoyed the scent! Lemongrass oil has been a staple in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions for generations. It has also found its way into many anti-aging beauty products thanks to its skin-supportive properties.

Lemongrass oil is revered for its ability to help calm occasional nervous exhaustion and tension while activating the mind and refreshing the senses. When going through a difficult transition or a particularly emotional time, lemongrass oil may help in balancing this emotional imbalance and in gently restoring much-needed calm and peace. For the home, lemongrass oil can also be a pleasant all-natural alternative to toxic multi-surface house cleaners. It can also be helpful in keeping pesky bugs at bay!

Blending essential oils opens up a world of aromatherapy possibilities! Other oils that complement lemongrass’ penetrating fragrance include: basil, bergamot, cedarwood, eucalyptus, juniper berry, rose, geranium, lavender, lime, grapefruit, and rosemary oils.

Piping Rock's pure Lemongrass Oil is available in 1/2 oz., 2 oz. & 16 oz. bottles.

Lemongrass Oil Directions for Use

Add 3-5 drops of Lemongrass Oil to a diffuser or vaporizer, to a bowl of steaming water or a hot bath to fill a room with its lemony scent. To use topically, add ~5 drops of Lemongrass Oil to ~10 mL of any Piping Rock carrier oil.

Lemongrass Oil is for external use only and should be diluted in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed or avocado oil before being used topically. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Always consult your trusted physician before adding any essential oil to your regimen, especially if you are pregnant, nursing or taking any medications. Discontinue use and alert your doctor should an adverse reaction occur. Keep out of reach of children and away from eyes and mouth. Essential oils are flammable.
