Read more about Jasmine Oil

What is Jasmine?

Intoxicatingly sweet and floral in aroma, jasmine (Jasminium grandiflorum) has been a sought-after luxury fragrance for centuries. Native to the tropics of Southeast Asia, Africa and Australia, jasmine is a climbing shrub with dark green foliage, but the show-stopper is its ivory star-shaped flowers which emit its exotic, heady scent that is considered a must-have in high-end perfumery. Its name is derived from the Persian word “yasym,” meaning “fragrant”—and it’s no wonder how it earned that!

Historically, jasmine has been treasured for both its aromatic properties and uses. It has been a staple in Asian ceremonies for generations, promoting mindful meditation and stimulating joy and harmony in those who bask in its deep, nourishing scent. From Arabia to Asia, the scent has even been historically revered as an aphrodisiac!

Jasmine Absolute Essential Oil

Extracted from the plush flowers, jasmine oil doesn’t come simply… or quickly, for that matter. To start, the flowers must be hand-picked at night when the blooms are at their aromatic peak. They are then extracted through enfleurage, a much more involved, time-consuming and costly process. This method involves the flowers going through fat maceration, wherein they are placed in fat that extracts the precious oil from each flower. After several days of this, this infused fat is melted and filtered, with the aromatic compounds extracted from the fat using alcohol. The alcohol is then distilled, leaving behind the pure essence of jasmine absolute. Utilizing enfleurage means much more and better quality oil is derived from the plant, whereas simply steam distilling the flowers will quickly dry up its oil supply.

This lengthy process, combined with the fact that it takes approximately 8,000 flowers to create 1 mL of jasmine oil, is why jasmine absolute tends to be one of the more pricey oils. Its scent is so powerful and beloved, that it is often sold as a much more affordable (though no less pleasant and aromatic) blended oil, wherein it has been pre-combined with carrier oils such as sweet almond.

Jasmine Essential Oil

Jasmine oil is revered as aromatherapy royalty; in fact, it is oftentimes called the King of Oils, alongside rose oil as its floral Queen. This is due to jasmine being typically considered the most “masculine” of the floral scents, in addition to its regal reputation and unique cultivation and extraction techniques. Its floral aroma promotes uplifted moods and positivity while easing occasional stress, particularly when the oil is gently massaged into the skin.

Blending essential oils opens up a world of wellness possibilities! Other oils that compliment jasmine’s royal fragrance include: chamomile, geranium, lemon, lime, orange, neroli, cedar, coriander, lavender, and ylang ylang oils.

Piping Rock's pure Jasmine Absolute Oil is available in 1/2 oz. bottles; Piping Rock Jasmine Blended Oil is available in 1/2 oz. & 2 oz. bottles.

Jasmine Oil Directions for Use

Add 3-5 drops of Jasmine Oil to a diffuser or vaporizer, to a bowl of steaming water or a hot bath to fill a room with its floral scent. To use topically, add ~5 drops of Jasmine Oil to ~10 mL of any Piping Rock carrier oil.

Jasmine Oil is for external use only and should be diluted in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed or avocado oil before being used topically. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Always consult your trusted physician before adding any essential oil to your regimen, especially if you are pregnant, nursing or taking any medications. Discontinue use and alert your doctor should an adverse reaction occur. Keep out of reach of children and away from eyes and mouth. Essential oils are flammable.
