What is Bentonite Clay?
Bentonite clay, also known as fuller’s earth, is formed naturally from the weathering of volcanic ash, especially near bodies of water. There are four different types of bentonite clays, named for their dominant element: sodium, calcium, potassium, or aluminum, with sodium bentonite being the most popular. It has a naturally high and diverse supply of trace minerals, making it popular for skin and hair masks in the beauty industry.
This versatile clay, which has colloidal properties, expands when wet, making it indispensable in many practical applications. It is used as a sealant, especially in making groundwater barriers, and it is often used to soak up oil and water in commercial settings thanks to its absorbant properties. These properties are also what makes bentonite a perfect component of homemade facial masks!
Bentonite Clay Products
Bentonite clay has a unique ability to produce an “electric charge” when wet, making it an ideal component of facial masks to help absorb oil while promoting healthy, clean skin. Cleansing and purifying, it helps to maintain skin health, something it has been used for even by Native Americans.
Piping Rock’s 100% pure Bentonite Clay Powder contains sodium bentonite, and is perfect for making masks and shaves. This versatile powder can also be used as a quick fix for oily hair!
